  1. Kia ora Haemo,
This is one of my favourite paintings, and Don McLean even wrote a song about the painter Vincent van Gogh. This is a link to the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxHnRfhDmrk.
I never noticed that the tree looked like a castle, looking closely at the tree it reminds me of a flame. Have you ever gone to Google Art and Culture and had a close look at the painting? If you go to this link you can zoom right into the painting and see the cracks in the painting and how the paint is layered - https://artsandculture.google.com/asset/the-starry-night-vincent-van-gogh/bgEuwDxel93-Pg
What do you notice at the zoomed in painting?
    Nga mihi,

  2. Kia ora Haemo, this is Kieryn from the Summer Learning Journey.
Well done for participating in the Summer Learning Journey and creating this post about cracking the code through careful observation!
You have done an excellent job describing what you can see in Vincent Van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night’. That particular painting is one of my favourites for almost the exact reasons you enjoyed it; the use of oil paints, the stunning moon, and the spectacular tree which does infact look like a castle. I also really like the clouds which are painted with such an array of colours, as well as the detail which has gone into both the sky and village.
He truly was such an amazing artist who inspired so many others with his work.
Have you seen any of Vincent Van Gogh’s other paintings? If so, which ones did you like?
I enjoy drawing and painting. Whenever I’m feeling a little bit down, I always pull out my sketchbook and draw, and it makes me feel so much better!
Do you enjoy drawing and painting?
    Nga mihi
